Next Phase of I‑10 Widening and Reconstruction Moves Forward in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the next phase of the I‑10 Widening and Reconstruction Project in East Baton Rouge Parish is set to begin, with interstate construction anticipated to start on April 10, weather permitting. This portion of work includes widening the left lane of the I-10 westbound flyover and the right lane of the I-110 southbound flyover ramp leading to the I-10 Horace Wilkinson Bridge (Mississippi River Bridge).

Once construction begins, the contractor will restripe the I-10 westbound flyover that leads to the Mississippi River Bridge, shifting both lanes of traffic to the far right along the outside barrier wall. Crews will then install temporary concrete barriers on the current far-left lane and start removing the bridge railing to prepare for the widening. On the I-110 southbound flyover, temporary concrete barriers will be placed to block the far-right lane and shoulder from traffic in preparation for the interstate widening.

To reduce impacts on motorists, most closures will occur during overnight hours on weekends from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Throughout this work, drivers can expect four different temporary closures at various times.

Additionally, portions of Expressway Park that are beneath I-10 will be closed to the public for safety concerns, as well as the sections of Maximilian St. and St. Joseph St. that pass under I-10.

This press release is to initially inform all users of the I-10 corridor of impending lane closures of construction work.  Prior to starting any lane closures on I-10, DOTD will issue additional press releases complete with detour maps identifying days and times for each closure.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
